These fees are for the year - fall/winter/spring and summer. I am no hockey expert (but my friend's kids play hockey) and I was under the impression they pay about $1500 per season. Travel for hockey is farther and requires plane trips while most soccer travel is within driving distance and you can often return on the same day. If you want to play intermural soccer the fees are much less expensive - more like $200 a season and mostly people only play fall and/or spring. Rockville has a great introduction to Hockey that is $180 per session and the kids get the equipment but once you want to join a team I heard it was $1200/season for intermural. Correct me if I am wrong. We did the introduction and quickly exited stage left.
The house league just over 1500+ per season, but it's a long one from Sept - March. However add camps and private lessons to that and it could get expensive. https://ssl.demosphere.com/scripts/runisa.dll?s7:gp::72990+regis/guidelines Travel is a bit more up to $2800 I think. I just got off the phone with a friend who DD plays travel soccer to the tune of $2700, which doesn't inclue hotel or airfare. So again soccer seems expensive for what it is.
