Hi, newbie at all of this here. I received the results from my second grader's COGAT test and I am unsure of how it impact her possible selection for the gifted and talented program. She scored in the 98th percentile. How do programs use this for recruitment?
If you weren't informed back when the results first came out that your child was automatically in pool, then the scores weren't high enough to make the initial cutoff for consideration and it doesn't sound like you submitted on their behalf. If you think your child belongs in AAP, then next year, fill out the parent referral sheet by the deadline (all dates are available on FCPS website) and submit it with work samples and the parent questionnaire. The school will fill out their piece and add work samples and submit the packet to the county for review.
FCPS does not announce the in-pool numbers when scores are sent home. The notification that kids are in-pool comes a week or so before applications are do. It doesn’t matter in this case but for others reading this topic.
