Now that we are getting some decent pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure in DC, drivers still act as if the entire road is there. Commuting in this morning I had to go around and into traffic b/c two cars were blocking the bike lane. One had pulled into it to go around other traffic, cutting me off, and got oussecwgej I tapped her car and pointed to the bike lane sign. The other was an Uber driver waiting for a fare - they’re the worst. I really hope DC steps enforcement of drivers in cars entering the bike lanes.
Honestly this is why we need protected (with concrete curbs or bollards) bike lanes. Paint is not protection and many drivers just have zero regard for other road users and while it would be nice to rely on enforcement or people actually adhering to signs that jsut isn’t the way the world works.
+1 In DC everything off-limits to cars has to be physically protected with concrete or bollards, or they will go to there. We just don't enforce enough.
