Our son is currently at Edlin so I can share some pros and cons of our experience. Pros: The elementary teachers are great. Especially the 2nd and 3rd grades. There is also a new administration that cleaned out the bad teachers right away. Cons: the new hires were also grossly unqualified to be teaching in a GT school. As a result, the standards have lowered significantly and it’s really not that much different than the AAP program in FCPS. My other son is in AAP so we have a pretty good comparison. Sure, they’re one or two grade levels higher in most subjects, but they don’t go deep into topics at all. It’s mostly about exposure to various concepts rather than a deep dive. I would perhaps call it advanced, but not gifted. Other cons: the building is super old, the temperature fluctuates like crazy. Kids wear jackets pretty much all day in the winter and are boiling in the summer. There’s no cafeteria. They eat in the classrooms or outside. There’s also not much of a community if that’s important to you. We’re done at Edlin this year. I probably wouldn’t recommend it over an advanced placement/gifted services in public school. I heard good things about Nysmith and we considered it but it was more expensive and further away. I don’t regret Edlin because the elementary years were great. The upper grades (6-8) were nothing special.
