Our son is currently at Edlin so I can share some pros and cons of our experience. Pros: The elementary teachers are great. Especially the 2nd and 3rd grades. There is also a new administration that cleaned out the bad teachers right away. Cons: the new hires were also grossly unqualified to be teaching in a GT school. As a result, the standards have lowered significantly and it’s really not that much different than the AAP program in FCPS. My other son is in AAP so we have a pretty good comparison. Sure, they’re one or two grade levels higher in most subjects, but they don’t go deep into topics at all. It’s mostly about exposure to various concepts rather than a deep dive. I would perhaps call it advanced, but not gifted. Other cons: the building is super old, the temperature fluctuates like crazy. Kids wear jackets pretty much all day in the winter and are boiling in the summer. There’s no cafeteria. They eat in the classrooms or outside. There’s also not much of a community if that’s important to you.

We’re done at Edlin this year. I probably wouldn’t recommend it over an advanced placement/gifted services in public school. I heard good things about Nysmith and we considered it but it was more expensive and further away. I don’t regret Edlin because the elementary years were great. The upper grades (6-8) were nothing special.

Anyone who is currently at Virginia Academy, can you share your experience? I know they recently added high school. I would have one in lower school and one in upper school by the time we move. How heavy are they on religious studies? We are Christian but not actively part of a church. Thanks.

This doesn't make sense. Are you new to the area? The curriculum seems geared toward Christian education/worldview.

What about it doesn’t make sense? We are a Christian family but have not officially joined a church.

so you celebrate Christmas and Easter but don’t bother with the rest, got it.

What is wrong with you and why so judgy? Sheesh, leave the OP alone.

Stop feeding the MAGA troll. Just someone who thinks they're a Christian because they show up in church every week. And judge others to take the focus off themselves because they have a lot to hide.

We go to Edlin School in Reston. Non-religious and they have a bus from Ashburn.

OP, the school is relatively conservative if you are okay with that. But it’s Loudoun, what more can you expect

Also interested in this school.
Haven’t been able to find much online (reviews) and don’t know anyone currently there.
Would love to hear from current families.

It's one thing if you're looking, but it is probably something they'll ask about.
