To those saying I made up the 34%, it's right there in UMD's internal stats, already provided by another poster on a College Forum thread about UMD: https://www.irpa.umd.edu/CampusCounts/Admissions/apps_ug.pdf The admit rate changed because there were more applicants. Notice the trend was there for Fall 2021 as well. Admit rate went from 51% to 40% to 34%. I suspect it has to do with Covid and test-optional admissions. No one knows whether this trend will continue, but it's not just UMD, people. It would make sense that most colleges that have gone test-optional have received more applications, and their admit rate has therefore decreased. My senior is already in to UMD Honors - he submitted all test scores, including AP exams. I suspect that the only way to see your way through these admit rates is to NOT go test-optional.
wow, thanks for that info. Yes, 2022 appears to have been much more competitive. All scores are up -- SAT, GPA, # of AP credits -- while the admit rate was down. Will be interested to see what 2023 fall numbers look like. As an aside, I posted on the UMD EA thread that I'm hearing that more RMIB students didn't get into UMD, though I don't know what the majors were.
