[/quote] Because in some places there just isn’t anymore available space to widen it. It’s all been used already. MoCo is full of stretches of beltway where there just isn’t any additional room for more lanes. In one spot on the outer loop west of Connecticut Ave rock creek has a bend that already brings the shoreline within 20 feet of the right lane. On the inner loop side near the the temple, there’s a rock hillside almost right up to the roadway. Widening only works if there’s space available. [/quote]
