Presumably, they helped raise the person you chose to be your most important partner. If you have children, generally they love your children as well. I wouldn't call them like a father or a distant relative, but somewhere in the middle, and definitely family. Obviously, some FIL are terrible people and/or didn't help raise your spouse, but for the sake of argument, let's assume we're talking about a FIL that falls within normal societal expectations.[/quote]
