We have friends in the area that go to other schools. I get the feeling that Travilah is more laid back with the exception of the principal who seems obsessed with test scores. I'm not a fan of how she addresses parents at functions. I do get the feeling that she is trying to preemptively manage parents en masse and wants no intrusions into her kingdom. The teachers on the other hand are great. The PTA stuff is fun and very community oriented. At first I thought that the events were pretty cheesy and a little disorganized but this is the type of activity that kids love. Its much easier to participate in the activities and actually have fun than the more over the top stuff we saw/did at private school. Many of our friends at StoneMill complain about it being too rigid and way too many worksheets. Travilah also has tons of worksheets but doesn't seem as rigid. Our friends at Wayside seem to get much better communication from the school about the curriculum, what is being taught etc. There are a good number of sport activities and after school activities on the school grounds which are great.
ALL principals are obsessed with test scores. The don't necessarily want to be but there is pressure on them from their area superintendent., who gets pressure from the likes of Weast and Starr. People lose their jobs over test scores.
