Mine is 14 but is impossible. He plays xbox only on occasion, he already has a phone and other similar electronics. He doesn't need/want an update on any of those items (well, he wants a new iPhone but that's not happening). He doesn't care yet for clothes or shoes. He listens to audiobooks exclusively, which we get him with wild abandon. He doesn't like sports teams. I was even considering a summer sleep away camp as a Christmas gift - like Space Camp or Travel for Teens.
We realized what we were spending on audio books - and told my DD that she needed to use the library audio books and beyond that she got as a Christmas gift 1 book a month and if she wanted more she could use her allowance. A year later - she is using the library of 90% of her audio books.
This, except for eBooks. We only get them from the library and have more than enough for my reading teens. I think our library allows 10 downloads at a time. For the family, that's 40 downloads at a time, which we use if we are going on vacation. (Then the kids have a ton to choose from.)
