This policy is why we moved back to MCPS from private. DS had a really hard time with turning in homework and the policy was so harsh that if he missed an assignment, it was so difficult to catch up. He went from being a straight A student to academic probation. He’s still having trouble turning in assignments, but the ability to do so late has been a game changer. He used to just give up before, and now he has an incentive to complete his work. Maybe this isn’t ideal but it has been a tremendous help for DS.
Why didn't you monitor him to get the assignments done and turned in? I hate the policy. Give a deadline and if its not done you fail.
I can’t monitor something if he didn’t bring it home, and if he forgot, then it’s already too late. He lost 3 homework planners in the first two months of school so writing it down didn’t help either. Also, his MCPS elementary school had a zero homework policy. To go from that to middle school where suddenly it was daily homework and no leeway to turn it in was too much. For us, it’s having some flexibility in turning work in, so it makes getting half credit moot. Ideally, we should want the kids to do the work even if late.
