I know he's an adult and he should schedule this crap himself but since you know he won't, do it as it can lead to very serious issues.  My DH used to avoid this crap, didn't see a dentist for the first 4-5 yrs we were together, and he had dental insurance the whole damn time.  Now he goes 3 times a year and I'm so glad because he helps reinforce dental health to our children as a result of his experiences, some of the above included.
