My DH was very reluctant to go to the dentist. I introduced him to mine -- who is the nicest guy in the world. Now, he's happily there every 3-6 months for check ups. He just need to meet a good, friendly dentist. Also, most dentists would prescribe him Valium or Xanax to help with the anxiety.

If switching toothpaste doesn't fix it, it could be major that he has periodontal issues and may experience bone loss in his jaw because his mouth is so bacteria laden. This bone loss can lead to tooth loss. Perhaps the day he is able to pull his own tooth might be an eye opener for him. I'm also quite sure he would love the scalings that would be required to address the periodontal disease.

Get his ass to a dentist, give him a valium or use sedation dentistry or something. If there is indeed bacteria breeding in his mouth, he can very easily transmit it to you.

In the mean time, get some listerine and make his ass use it.

I know he's an adult and he should schedule this crap himself but since you know he won't, do it as it can lead to very serious issues. My DH used to avoid this crap, didn't see a dentist for the first 4-5 yrs we were together, and he had dental insurance the whole damn time. Now he goes 3 times a year and I'm so glad because he helps reinforce dental health to our children as a result of his experiences, some of the above included.

21:17 again. You can find similar complaints online about various products. People react to ingredients differently. Any chance this could be the case for your husband?

I go to the dentist regularly and developed slimy, stringy, thick saliva. I switched toothpaste brands and it went away. I had been using Crest Pro Health toothpaste and mouthwash. Within a couple of days of getting rid of Pro Health my saliva was back to normal.

Maybe you can talk to his doc about perscribing an anti anxiety drug. My dentist gave me valium when I needed a root canal and it made all the difference to me. I could not care less what the dentist was doing inside my mouth and prior to him giving me the valium, I was shaking with anxiety.

DH has been putting off going to the dentist for years now. He's had some major dental work in the past and developed a real phobia about it. Over the past month or so, he's had REALLY gross thick saliva and I think it must be related to tooth decay. It's so bad now I can't even kiss him without gagging. How do you make a grown man go to the dentist??? rant over!
