It is not a bad thing necessarily to drift away from old school friends as you and they move on with life. College, jobs and grad school. But, it obviously always comes as a shock when you realize that you have, in fact, done that for no particular reason. It is also scary for parents when you are confronted by an event like this where you at least somewhat knew the parents and kids, and they always seemed to be doing well.
