Funeral was yesterday. A nice service if such a thing can ever be nice. Suffered from depression. Minister was very open and direct about about her depression causing her to commit suicide. And, the need not to be ashamed about suffering from depression.

Rocked our entire world when that happened to my DC's friend. They have never been the same. Literally changed on a fundamental level. I hope people realize the profound impact suicide has on everyone -- the ripple that keeps expanding -- when they consider it. People are connected to each other in ways we can't see or understand.

Keep an eye on your DC, OP.

I am afraid “retrospect” is too soon at this point. Funeral is this Saturday. It is not a bad thing necessarily to drift away from old school friends as you and they move on with life. College, jobs and grad school. But, it obviously always comes as a shock when you realize that you have, in fact, done that for no particular reason. It is also scary for parents when you are confronted by an event like this where you at least somewhat knew the parents and kids, and they always seemed to be doing well. It is a reminder that we all have issues and problems.

The continuing need to be communicative and aware. It hit hard these last few days. A good high school friend of our now 23 year old son took her own life. A shock for him and the other 3-4 kids who were part of that group in high school. They had all drifted apart through college and first jobs. And, we parents traded Christmas cards and kept up really only through the internet.

We find ourselves just so very sad for the family. The kids are still in shock I would say.
