That may change with the development of GLP-1 agonist drugs but bariatric surgery has a long history of good success. Also, they aren’t just restrictive surgeries. I would work to separate fact versus fiction with respect to surgery before you make a decision against it. Bariatric surgery with reputable surgeons with proper monitoring has generally good outcomes.

The development of drugs like semiglutide for weight control is exciting. Please find a doctor that can talk competently about this.

I would start with an endocrinologist who has experience with morbid obesity. Do not go to any doctor that gives a “diet and exercise” only advice; that’s medically ignorant and will just lead you to regain.  You need a comprehensive blood panel, close monitoring, and good discussion of medical options. There are a lot of doctors who know literally nothing about obesity so you have to be careful. If one doctor seems ignorant, try another.
