He is fit and in good shape but doesn't want to get a super trendy suit with cropped pants and pattern that will look dated in a couple of years. He wants something with a slim/tailored fit but a bit more classic.

What kind of suits are in style these days? What colors are more versatile (black feels a bit too formal or funeral-ish)? What stores on online retailers might you recommend that specialize in men's suiting?
