OP:  I think it's a cultural thing.  Your coworkers may divide their vacation time into relaxing (beach) and sightseeing (new places).   Are you by chance from another country originally?  I had an Asian friend who seemed to want to cover a lot more than we would usually do in a week long trip.  Fun, but not relaxing.

Agree this is cultural. Part of my family is from another part of the world and they are into “touring” as they call it and covering as much as possible [/quote]
