Most community members are frustrated with the police but not because they oppose police on principle but because the police are ineffectual at actually protection people here. We see how law enforcement responds to threats in white, rich communities and we notice how different that is from how they respond here. Racism, corruption, and disengagement ARE problems. You can't just say "more police" without addressing those issues. But there is such disregard and distrust for black people, even among black cops, that it can feel futile.[/quote]
