Couple of 8th kids whose parents held them back a year are supposedly trying out for HS sports this year (not in my kids’ sport). Is that seriously allowed? If so, that is some BS when FCPS doesn’t let homeschoolers play for their teams.
I believe 8th graders that aged out of county programs can play JV or Freshman level sports at their local high school. Then they get their 4 years of high school eligibility when they get to high school, UNLESS they turn 20 years old.
Someone just posted this on the High School Try Out thread. That an 8th grader can play at the high school level if not offered at their middle school. For Fairfax that would mean that any 8th grader could play since no sports are offered (the poster said this is a State rule). I have never heard of this - but it has nothing to do with being held back. It would mean you could try out and perhaps make the team in 8th grade - play that year and then four more in high school, giving five total. I would like to see where this is codified though.
