If a kid can make the team and a parent is willing to do all of that extra driving to rush them to the high school every day to practice with the older kids, have at it. If they are that good they are usually playing club, not trying to get on the HS team in 8th.
Are there football and basketball clubs?

My understanding is that ANY 8th grader can tryout if the Sport is not offered in MS not just those held back.
Homeschoolers are NOT enrolled in Public schools.
My redshirted son's school did not offered that option.

How is this BS? Homeschoolers have opted out of the public school system. They should not be allowed to opt in to public school system sport. They can join rec leagues, clubs, etc. If you allow homeschoolers in, why not private school kids who might like a particular high school sport.

If you hold in middle school (8th) then I guess you would get 4 years of high school. I cannot imagine holding your kid for sports related reasons. But if the kid was struggling in school and needed to be held and was also an athlete - then that is life. The goal was to help a struggling student and perhaps it will. If the kid becomes a better athlete that confidence might be a big help.
More parents need to worry about themselves and their own. Don't compare your child. If your child is getting less play time because of it, then tell your child to improve.

I believe 8th graders that aged out of county programs can play JV or Freshman level sports at their local high school. Then they get their 4 years of high school eligibility when they get to high school, UNLESS they turn 20 years old.
