Pull ups. And at four, your child can get up and change the pull up himself if uncomfortable or pees through.
+1. It’s important he is able to care for himself and pull ups make that possible. Lying on his back to get an adult to put diapers on him isn’t good for him.
How old is the OP’s kid? If they’re 3-4 years old, is absolutely within the realm of normal to still have a parent around to put on diapers if need be. My oldest is 8 and I still help him step into pants and shirts on occasion.
No. It isn’t. Unless they have developmental challenges, you shouldn’t be dressing an 8 year old or putting diapers on a 4 year old.
Hmm. I still have to follow up when my 4 yo wipes her butt (she does it, but I have to do it again because she still doesn't know how to get it clean), so I don't think it's weird to be putting a night diaper on a same-age child. I mean, she is independent with her clothes and stuff but still sometimes needs help with specific things (shoes on wrong feet, sticky zipper or tricky button, etc.). I definitely don't feel like my child is 100% on her own with regards to the bathroom or getting dressed at 4. Hopefully at 5? I don't know, I've seen threads about people whose 6 yo kids still don't do a good job wiping their butts and I don't know what you do at that point -- just accept they will always have poop in their underwear? Kids are not always super hygienic. Besides, PP wasn't talking about dressing her 8 yo, she was saying that sometimes she might help him on with a shirt in a certain circumstance. Like I'm thinking of when we are getting to or leaving the pool, I always feel like we do stuff like this because people's hands are full or they're in a big hurry or something. It's normal to help your kids occasionally with getting dressed. Even when older. They are still children.
