Moore is accomplished and inspiring. I’m not clear that it makes sense to talk about his “base” since I believe it’s his first election. Also, people who vote in the primary elections are not necessarily all that similar to people who will vote for him in the general election against a specific—and, I think repugnant— opponent.  If Moore wins AND runs again, and has an actual track record, then talking about his “base” of supporters might make more sense. In my mind, though, “base” suggests single issue voters, and/or personality “cult” voters, or voters who are extremely committed to one specific candidate,  and that doesn’t seem at all descriptive of those who voted for Moore.

I didn’t vote for him in the primary, but it’s easy for me to understand why people did. I think each of the top Democratic candidates offered different things. None of them offered a “perfect” package. As with many elections, people voted based on their priorities.[/quote]
