https://www.marylandmatters.org/2022/07/09/political-notes-moco-polls-offer-different-views-on-exec-race-and-lierman-and-moore-are-up-with-new-ads/ Taken from the above site: A survey by Progressives for Progress, a political action committee funded by real estate interests, shows the race tightening. In this snapshot of the electorate, Elrich’s once-massive lead is down to six points. Elrich was the choice of 33% of Democrats surveyed, followed by Blair at 27%, Riemer at 15% and Peter James at 1%. Nearly a quarter of the electorate was undecided. In a June survey conducted by the same firm, Columbia-based Gonzales Polls, Elrich led Blair 45%-20%, with Riemer at 15%. ---- It's very possible that we see Elrich lose to Blair and if not, Blair is in a good position to run as an Independent in the Fall and challenge him.
Of course if Blair changes his party to run as an Independent, while that might attract some voters, it will be a huge turnoff to others. Since Blair doesn’t have an actual track record of government or community service, he’ll be running as a wealthy businessman, who’s willing to shift his party alliance for expediency. As someone who already has questions about his ability to respond to the needs and interests of those of us who don’t share his privileges, if Blair were to shift parties after losing the primary, I would find that very problematic. If he’s truly an Independent, then he needs to realize that, and communicate that to potential voters BEFORE running as a Democrat and losing.
