He needed to give them all the raise because every jurisdiction is giving raises this year—cops are quitting in droves and the academy classes are empty. But he’s still clearly no real friend of the police and they know that. It’s pretty common for LEO in MD not to endorse the winning candidate so whoever things they are worried about that is probably wrong.
Blair's add says he wants to build affordable housing for teachers and cops. I couldn't help but wonder if they were paid a living wage they could buy their own houses.
We have a number of teachers and cops who own SFH in our neighborhood. But it is not the wealthier part of the county. Lots of feds too.
There a Moco cops living in nice houses all over the county. I see their cruisers parked in their driveways. After fire department captains, police officers are routinely the highest paid county employees. Teachers are generally compensated competitively in the region but I agree that they could use a raise and pay for it by cutting all those six figure administrator and supervisor positions.
A 15-year police officer at the PO3 step: $94K A 15-year MCPS teacher at the masters step: $94K Top salary for a PO3 (without going into police admin): $100K Top salary for a MCPS teacher with a masters: $108K Some officers can become sergeants, and in that case they can make a maximum of $115K The police are not routinely the highest paid county employees. Perhaps the police chief makes good money, but I suspect the head of MCPS does, as well.
