I know someone who used to write for a similar site.  She did just Google and compile.  Once she was doing a list of places to kayak and sup in the area, which my family does a lot.  I recommended a few places to her but she said she wouldn’t add them to the list because they weren’t well known enough to be on other lists.  I’d assumed that was the point of making a new list.  Guess not.[/quote]
