I can't believe they put the Holocaust Museum on a list of "Fun Things to Do with Kids." WTF, people.

I kind of shudder at the idea of a bunch of tourists taking their kids through Rock Creek Park. There are things you need to know, right?

As a tourist, I wouldn't waste my time there.

Why no Archives, postal museum, surrounding historic battlefields/landmarks/houses?
Those supercede things like Clemyjontri or Wheaton (which arent even remotely close to DC) or that restaurant (free advertising for that restaurant- huh?)

I feel like these "lists" are written by an outsider who just Googled "things to do in DC).
Cringe.

I know someone who used to write for a similar site. She did just Google and compile. Once she was doing a list of places to kayak and sup in the area, which my family does a lot. I recommended a few places to her but she said she wouldn’t add them to the list because they weren’t well known enough to be on other lists. I’d assumed that was the point of making a new list. Guess not.

Eliminate 1, 8 ,and 11.Why would you come to DC to go to a random playground in VA or a basic park in MD? And a restaurant is not an activity.

Is the Bureau of Engraving and Printing still closed for tours?

With the exception of 2 we’ve not done with kids (Gtown waterfront and Founding Farmers), my kids love all of these. All big hits with multiple visits over the last decade, baby until now as teen+tween.

I don’t see anything wrong with the original list we enjoyed most of them very much

Why did you put an apostrophe in your title?

Actually we live in DC and enjoy a few of the kings on this list. We’ve done puppet shows and carousel at Glenn echo, rock creek park, and some museums (lfewer because of covid than we would have otherwise). I expect museums to become more of a thing now that our 6yo has been to 3 on field trips. We also have a 6 yo. We usually go to the playgrounds in our neighborhood, but friends who live in DC that are more willing to drive on weekends have said good things about the ones in Wheaton and Fairfax that are listed. Friends in SE DC take the kids biking on Mt Vernon trail. The MBT is closer to us so we do that.

I think our what we do with kids list is pretty normal - farmers market, playgrounds, splash pads in the summer, play at home, run errands, library, take the dog for a family walk or go for a scooter ride, family movies. Occasionally we do something touristy like a museum or monument/memorial on the mall. We’re going to the zoo this weekend, but that’s not an every weekend thing. We like to keep track of festivals or fairs in the region and go to a few of those usually in the spring or fall. But people come from all over the world to see the sights in DC. We’re not avoiding them just because we live here.

De-bunk this list. I hate coming across lists like these. I think they’re not representative of reality.

Add to it, what do your kids *actually* like to do in the area?
