I'd choose somewhere and go early. Dress him up. It will be fun. But I'd also work on this "we don't have a sitter" thing. Having someone you can leave your son with is really so valuable. I'd try it out on more casual evenings soon! He's at a great age for a sitter.
DP- you never know someone’s personal situation so I find this advice a tad rude. You don’t know about any issues or situation the child may be facing, if one of the parents has a history of being abused, so are not comfortable setters, etc. There are a lot of things that go on in people lives that influence the reasons why they do things. And for some of us getting a random sitter isn’t worth it. After our child had a scary medical incident we are not comfortable being away from them for almost a year. I can’t tell you how many people told us to leave our child behind so we can have time alone. We didn’t want that. Had we done it too early we would’ve been concerned the entire time. We waited until we were ready and that made it all and more better.
