I think I am the teacher for at least one of the kids mentioned here. :) Photo varies from school to school. Some schools don’t have dark rooms at all. Some use film/darkroom only at the upper levels. Online would be digital and I would imagine allow phones to be used. At my school Photo 1 is typically film/darkroom exclusively. Then Photo 2/3/4 are typically a 50-50 hybrid of film and digital. Last year during virtual using film/darkroom was sadly of course not an option, so Photo 1 had to be digital. Phones were also used since I couldn’t loan out digital cameras. About half of my students had DSLRs though, so I did provide instruction on how to use them. I spent semester 1 this year getting (most of) the Photo 2 kids up to speed with film/darkroom. I had a few who had taken Photo 1 pre-pandemic, so I got those particular students up to speed with digital. I imagine next year (and even the year after) I will have students that need basic film/darkroom instruction in Photo 2 since there may be students who took Photo 1 during virtual but didn’t go straight to Photo 2 this year. This year Photo 2/3/4 has done more digital work second semester than usual due to so many more absences than usual. It’s harder to catch up with a film/darkroom project than it is digital and I honestly don’t want to overwhelm my students.
