Are you filling the role of a missing parent? If so - good for you. Still - not much that do. A post grad meal would be nice, but likely you are way too late on a reservation. But, you can give it a try. If you are not filling in for a parent. Don’t go unless this is a big family event and the graduation is just one thing that would be going on. Your presence, while nice, may well be just a hassle for the family. Grads typically are moving - that day. The ceremony is long and dull with limited seating. In short - you will be the favorite aunt if you save the money and instead sent a nice gift. I recommend a nice leather banded watch. Not oversized. Something you think executives will wear.
Ugh, disagree with this PP. You obv have a close relationship with him. I would talk to him to see what his day is like and offer up a meal, or even a nice dinner after he moves out and has more time to breath. I had a nice dinner with my family after graduation and then went to party hard with my friends afterwards. As far as presents go, a nice set of cufflinks at someplace like Thomas Pink would be great. There is no nice watch that someone in finance would like for $250 or less.
