As of now, only 28% of DC kids of age 5-11 are vaccinated. Let’s say that by som pure miracle, another 28% of kids 5-11 get vaccinated. Will the rest 44% be expelled from school and just not get the school education? Or is DC planning to finally open up that online public school they promised a year ago?
Let’s be real here. The 28% of kids already vaccinated are concentrated in ward 3 DCPS schools and the charters with majority middle class families. They likely make up most of that number. I suspect it’s even lower than 28% in EOTP DCPS and title 1 schools. The city is not going to do anything about kids not vaccinated. They will continue to keep all schools open. The achievement gap has gotten much worst since the pandemic, and the city knows they can’t afford to keep these kids out of school.
Ward 6 as well. Our school had almost 40% of eligible kids vaccinated in an on-site clinic the PTO partnered with a local pharmacy to run and spots filled up in under 10 minutes from when the sign up launched. I know at least one other W6 DCPS that did the same.
