Our house is a 40's-era cape cod, so I'm not sure a more modern, stacked or vertical placement would feel right.  We may try a herringbone pattern on the floor similar to the first photo below, which I love.  Option two would be to go with a square zellige, which would probably feel a little more current.  Option three would be to stick with a more traditional subway a la photo number three, which I also like--but again, worry about investing in a dying trend.  I don't think I'm adventurous enough try a square ceramic.  Any thoughts?
