We went:

1. Infant seat with 2 bases (used for both kids until they were about 6 or 7 months old)

2. Convertible - Britax Boulevard/Chicco Nextfit (2 cars). We had DD1 in the convertible rear facing until she was 3, then forward faced in that seat until she was about 3.75 and we needed it for the younger one.

3. Combination Harness-to-Booster - Britax Frontier (#1 was harnessed until she was 6.5 b/c they have to be 40lbs to remove the harness and she's tiny, then we used it as a high back booster until it was time to give it to her sibling)

4. Booster w/ Removable Back - Britax Skyline (started using this around 7, and will probably remove the back/buy a backless booster next year - again, she's small, so YMMV with ages).

If we didn't have a sibling that we needed to pass seats onto, we would gone straight from the Combination to a cheap backless booster.

For travel, we had the Cosco Scenara, then Evenflo Maestro, then switched to the Ride Safer Vest, which is SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT. There are height/weight restrictions to use it, I forget when we started, maybe when my older daughter was 4.[/quote]
