Heels shorten the muscles or something. I wear maybe 2 inch heels at work sometimes, but never commuting (walking from metro or to meeting, or walking to get lunch, etc.). And on weekends I'm typically in sneakers. And if I know I'm going to be in a business/professional setting that requires me to walk around (like at a conference or something) I'll typically wear flats or very low heels.
