Unless she only very recently declared a wish for a 6 qt mixer, shopping and only finding a 5 qt on 12/23 is.... really not great. Especially is you think you have that kind of wife. Why are men?!?! (I would be happy with it myself, but... she asked for 6 qt, maybe for a reason, and she is the one to please.) The gift reciept / gift card situation is maybe an option, but at least insist on taking on the return/exchange yourself. Don't give her an errand.
