OP -- did you grow up with mince pies or are you looking to try them as a novice?

I  grew up with them and use "mince" and "mincemeat" pie interchangeably to mean a fruit filling. It doesn't have meat in it, but it's not necessarily vegetarian -- it might have animal fat in the preparation.

I would not call a savory meat pie a "mince" pie (although I might call ground beef "mince").

I'd recommend the Walker's in the box (same folks that make shortbread).[/quote]

OP here.  I am hosting for the holidays and an elderly relative made a request for mince pie.  This type of dessert is definitely not my jam.  I looked at recipes, but some of the ingredients were difficult to obtain, so I’ve decided to try to buy the best mince pie I can find.  [/quote]
