Meat or no meat?
Mince = no meat, just nuts and fruitcake-type ingredients Mincemeat = meat included in the recipe. That’s my understanding. I’m looking for mince (no meat).
OP -- did you grow up with mince pies or are you looking to try them as a novice? I grew up with them and use "mince" and "mincemeat" pie interchangeably to mean a fruit filling. It doesn't have meat in it, but it's not necessarily vegetarian -- it might have animal fat in the preparation. I would not call a savory meat pie a "mince" pie (although I might call ground beef "mince"). If it has animal fat in it it can still be called vegetarian. If can not be called vegan. And you do not use mince and mincemeat interchangeably when talking about the pie which is a dessert. I'd recommend the Walker's in the box (same folks that make shortbread).
