The question of how to relate to the dominant culture has always fascinated me. Assimilate (if allowed to)? Become a separatist? Go back and forth changing style and language depending on where you are? It's a problem that white Anglo-Americans like me don't experience as part of our daily lives - except, of course, as a woman, I have had to make choices about whether to "talk like a man" when applying for jobs!
