Uh, it’s not an either/or. First off, some of the toys in that link are colorful. But also, I’m a cusper (born 1980) and while our house has neutral walls and muted tones in our master bedroom, my 5 up’s bedroom is literally rainbow themed— super colorful everything with lots of bright pink in particular. And her walls are gray, because when everything else is a smorgasbord of color, you don’t need bright walls. I get a lot of people are into neutrals, but I associate that more with the bland “tastefulness” of boomers like Martha Stewart and Nancy Myers. The color palette most associated with Gen X was black and gray, shades of grunge and goth. And millennials on Instagram and TikTok often looove color, but it’s about pops of color against neutral backgrounds, because it photographs well and easily, giving the camera an easy focal point.
Please. Compare the dull muted colors to Haba, a classic and tasteful toy. And it’s not just toys, obvi. I guess it’s because of Insta, because color is difficult to look good in all lighting and settings, as well as gamma of displays — I mean everyone looks better on black and white so I guess it’s a variation of that!
