I'm a millennial (1983) and hate beige but love grey. I have grey eyes and look good in grey clothes, and I prefer cool tones to warm tones. That said, my house has a lot of color, mostly in the form of rugs and art. I associate beige and lots of neutrals with, like, Nancy Meyers and more of an older crowd.

Thank you everyone got side tracked by the Rainbow Brite joke

I am really asking: WHY MILLENNIALS HATE COLOR??

I have 4 nieces who are millennials and they all love gray. When one had her first baby she wanted a gray crib, gray walls, gray rugs, etc.
Not my circus not my monkeys but why would anyone the her late twenties like such a dead “ color”.

We started out VERY neutral even with first toys but now enjoying a mix of colors and beiges.

Oh, so are all the beige things I see organic and natural materials. That is a nicer motive.

But also, I’m a cusper (born 1980) and while our house has neutral walls and muted tones in our master bedroom, my 5 up’s bedroom is literally rainbow themed— super colorful everything with lots of bright pink in particular. And her walls are gray, because when everything else is a smorgasbord of color, you don’t need bright walls.

I get a lot of people are into neutrals, but I associate that more with the bland “tastefulness” of boomers like Martha Stewart and Nancy Myers. The color palette most associated with Gen X was black and gray, shades of grunge and goth. And millennials on Instagram and TikTok often looove color, but it’s about pops of color against neutral backgrounds, because it photographs well and easily, giving the camera an easy focal point.

Please. Compare the dull muted colors to Haba, a classic and tasteful toy.

And it’s not just toys, obvi.

I guess it’s because of Insta, because color is difficult to look good in all lighting and settings, as well as gamma of displays — I mean everyone looks better on black and white so I guess it’s a variation of that!

GenXer here, I was 6-7 when Rainbow Brite came out and LOVED it! The 80’s were all about rainbows, neon colors and pastels.
Now, the rainbow has a different significance, and some people are afraid to use it 🤷🏼‍♀️
As for the beige, neutral colored toys - those look very Motessori inspired so that must be their appeal

RB came out in 1984, the youngest GenX would have been 4 or 5 by then; this is a show for preschoolers. My sibling was Millennial (HS Class 2000) and loved it.

I was born in 1983 and was too young for most of rainbow brite.

I'm GenX and I'd never heard of Rainbow Brite. I was a senior in high school when it came out.

Home decor, clothes, CHILDRENS TOYs.

Beige beige beige. I thought this trend was on the wane when Breaking Bad mocked it with the Beige Memo

Seriously, why is the current aesthetic an absence of color or extremely muted color palette? I see it everywhere.
