I'd love to be a part time nanny, but I have no references to offer with relevant experience. I'm a career changer and it's not going well.
If you’re willing to be an after school nanny and can fill in all day on sick days and school holidays, you’ll be hired in a hot New York minute.
+1. Go get your long Red Cross Pediatric CPR and First aid certificate (it’s a one day, eight hour course) and a bunch of character references from friends with kids and start looking now. You won’t get top dollar but if you’re iron-clad-reliable, you’ll get a great reference. And then you’re on your way. When I only had one reference starting out, I used a children’s librarian from our weekly storytime and a Music Together teacher, both who’d seen me with my first charge countless times to fill out my references.
