If you’re willing to be an after school nanny and can fill in all day on sick days and school holidays, you’ll be hired in a hot New York minute.
+1. Go get your long Red Cross Pediatric CPR and First aid certificate (it’s a one day, eight hour course) and a bunch of character references from friends with kids and start looking now. You won’t get top dollar but if you’re iron-clad-reliable, you’ll get a great reference. And then you’re on your way.
When I only had one reference starting out, I used a children’s librarian from our weekly storytime and a Music Together teacher, both who’d seen me with my first charge countless times to fill out my references.
