Jobs are everywhere right now, especially lower level jobs. Fast food, retail, babysitting, summer camps. This shouldn't be difficult.
NP This is what I hear everywhere but still DS found that companies were really unresponsive to applications and he applied at a ton of places. I'd guess it's because he had no retail/food service experience, just camp counselor work (he'd have been happy to be a counselor for the summer but was looking for work during the school year). I think companies, especially big chains, are being too picky and then whining about the lack of labor. Really, how hard is it to teach someone to run a cash register? He ended up getting a job at a local food retailer through a personal connection. OP - your teen should ask every teen he knows if they will recommend him at their workplace.
This has been my daughter's experience, too. She's applied a bunch of places - good resume/social skills etc, but getting nothing. I thought that since all these low level jobs were open she'd get one no problem.
This is also our experience. My kid waited to be done with AP exams to really start looking, so I don’t know it it’s just too late. However, lots of places are advertising that they’re looking for people, but they don’t respond to applications.
