This has been my daughter's experience, too. She's applied a bunch of places - good resume/social skills etc, but getting nothing. I thought that since all these low level jobs were open she'd get one no problem.


This is also our experience. My kid waited to be done with AP exams to really start looking, so I don’t know it it’s just too late. However, lots of places are advertising that they’re looking for people, but they don’t respond to applications.

M daughters had low response online. Walk your application/resume over and speak to a manger. Both kids got hired when they did this.

Does he play any sports? Most parents I know right now are looking for new high schoolers to work with their kids for something for them to do this summer. The current group are getting ready to go off to college. This started being a huge thing this past year when sports were cancelled with Covid and now our kids love the “training” from the teens. Post on Facebook or Nextdoor if they were willing to do this and you will get responses. They can make a lot of money.

Restaurants need bussers and hostesses. Seasonal is ok since people come and go in that business all the time. Both are very good ways to learn customer service and running a business. I'd go with private restaurant rather than big corporate.

My 17 year old needs a job this summer. Anyone know who is hiring teens for work in the summer? He has a lot of time for about 6 weeks this summer so something seasonal may be best.
