Poster who does checks for work— I rely On the care.com background checks that you can pay for when hiring. Is there a different service you recommend? Are they not trustworthy?
Former nanny and now parent. Care.com is absolutely terrible. There are multiple stories of their background checks coming back “ clear” but the nanny has a record. Some as minor as speeding, and some as major as assault and battery. I wouldn’t hold it against the nannies, but I would make sure to do an independent background check. I really like enannysource.com. Their backgrounds are similarly priced and I’ve used it on myself as a nanny and now I’m current nannies and sitters.
PP here. There is a story about a nanny abusing a child ( caused their death) and the background check came back “ clear”. The police said she had a criminal record that never showed up on the background check. There are also many complaints by parents saying Care.com kept charging them even when they canceled their membership. I would be careful about it.
