Former nanny and now parent. Care.com is absolutely terrible. There are multiple stories of their background checks coming back “ clear” but the nanny has a record. Some as minor as speeding, and some as major as assault and battery. I wouldn’t hold it against the nannies, but I would make sure to do an independent background check. I really like enannysource.com. Their backgrounds are similarly priced and I’ve used it on myself as a nanny and now I’m current nannies and sitters.
PP here. There is a story about a nanny abusing a child ( caused their death) and the background check came back “ clear”. The police said she had a criminal record that never showed up on the background check.
There are also many complaints by parents saying Care.com kept charging them even when they canceled their membership. I would be careful about it.

What does this mean? Not following you
I will say I have to do a background check on a candidate. Then they will send me an "all clear" background check from care.com and say here I already have one run. Then I will say to move forward working together, part of my job is to run one myself. So I will then run it and have things come up. It's usually fairly minor- several speeding tickets etc, but obviously that can be important to know if they are driving your kids around. I guess just be wary and maybe question what background check services care.com uses and how far back it looks.
