Swanson said in the PTA letter today that SOLs are still on. Hybrid will take them on in person days and virtual will take them at school on Mondays. They said a parent can fill out a refusal form. What impact will that have for HS? There is some alternative being administered for English and World Geo. That accounts for one of their HS classes (foreign language, math & world geo). Does skipping the math, science or reading(?) SOL impact credits in HS? I'm not anti-test and have never considered skipping them, but I'm not sure how we feel about sending our kid in on Mondays to take them this year.
Science no, since it's not a HS credit. If your child is in Algebra, I would have them take the SOL to get that Verified Credit for graduation out of the way if possible. If not, they will take the Geometry SOL next year. I think it's up to you and how strong your child is in math. It will not affect placement.
