Nope. According to Swanson, the virtual test doesn’t count for a verified credit. Ask your testing coordinator. This should be sent to all parents.

For an 8th grader, math seems to be the only one that matters. I don’t see why I should send them in on Mondays to take reading or science.

As far as earning one of the five verified credits needed for graduation, no. He/she would still get credit for the class. You need to pass 5 SOLs in HS credit classes to get those verified credits - one math, one science, one SS. Only SS has been given the option to do an alternative assessment in HS for verified credit this year.

It does not. It's SOL or s-o-l for the virtual kids.

My son took the Alg 1 SOL in 7th grade and it is listed in his transcript as a HS verified credit.

Science no, since it's not a HS credit.

If your child is in Algebra, I would have them take the SOL to get that Verified Credit for graduation out of the way if possible. If not, they will take the Geometry SOL next year. I think it's up to you and how strong your child is in math.

It will not affect placement.

Not a problem. Our student plans on taking the foreign language throughout HS.

I think you don't have to take the SOL this year but definitely a future year to get the verified credit that counts toward the advanced diploma. This matters for their high school transcript and college applications, so talk to your child's counselor before making any decision.
