Reviving this thread. I live in the Cora Kelly district but would really like to send my child to a Spanish immersion program (still several years away from kindergarten, but thinking ahead). Is it possible to get into the Mt. Vernon or John Adams programs from out of district? The ACPS website seems to say that it's possible for John Adams but not Mt. Vernon. This would be very unfortunate for us, since we live within walking distance of Mt. Vernon and miles away from John Adams. Does anyone know if there's any flexibility with these rules?
Things could change some before your kid gets to school but right now because Cora Kelly is a failing school - as is Mt. Vernon and John Adams - yes you will get the choice to move to other schools. There is likely not that much competition to get into John Adams but Mt. Vernon - lots of neighborhood parents do start out there.
