My high schooler had a great day. My middle schooler felt like it was practically like being in virtual school but in the classroom. I told him I thought it would get better with time. My elementary kid was thrilled to be going, but did say it was hard to feel normal with masks. I'm very excited that the kids are back in, even half time. I am hopeful that by fall, deaths and hospitalizations will be so low that the schools will be open to all kids five days a week because we won't need to maintain 6 feet of distancing. I'm hoping that those that want to be virtual will be enrolled in virtual Virginia rather than FCCPS schools, or perhaps isolated in one virtual-only class per grade, so that teachers do not have to figure out how to teach to a classroom and to kids online at the same time. I'm eager for the kids to lose the masks at some point too. I would hope that when deaths and hospitalizations fall very low, we can do that even without kids being vaccinated.
We are thrilled to be back too. I am hopeful that we will open to 5 days a week before Fall. I am hoping that they go to virtual only classes, and jettison concurrent. I am NOT eager to lose masks. I will fight really hard against that.
I think you're rights masks will be here for a while. But what's the justification for them if teachers and staff are vaccinated, regional caseloads are low, and hospitalizations and deaths are very very low? I think they make communicating very difficult. All for them now, but hopefully we have some common sense regarding when they are no longer mandatory. I've heard there will be a survey coming out soon regarding interest in going back 5 days a week. I hope they find a way to not have the concurrent classes next year. If I were a teacher I would fight hard for that -- I think it makes their job twice as hard and makes the school half as good for the kids!
